Day 2

Today went a whole lot better than the past few weeks have been with writing. I have gotten most of my plotting and researching out of the way today and currently have over 600 words written. I know it looks really bad, but I have a whole hell of a lot of real life stuff that needs to be done. I also have a bunch of places that say things like "BIG DESCRIPTION FOR JAY THE ASSHOLE I'M TOO LAZY TO COME UP WITH". Really, I know everything about these characters except for what they look like. I have the blonde haired blue eyed Texan's look, but that's about everything.

Tomorrow, since I only have one class and no plans until after 8pm, I am going to spend the day figuring out what my characters look like and hopefully getting at least 2k words written.

I'm going to go write some more now.

Peace.

So It Begins...

Piling up my list of things to do (work for a website, run 2 websites, and possibly work for another on top of school and work), I decided that it would be fun to make a blog and post about my adventures in writing a novel.

At the end of December, my friend Katie decided to challenge me to a writing challenge. The goal is to write 120k words within one year. Being my stupid, writer self, I decided to take the challenge. Loser buys the winner a new book in a series that we both want. Sounds like a pretty awesome and fun challenge, right?

WRONG!

About a week ago, I had two chapters written when my antagonist decided that he didn't want to be the antagonist. He wanted to help the protagonist in her journey, which left me with a problem: I have no antagonist for my story!!!

So, I decided to write something else. I plotted, came up with a really cool story to write, started writing it today and, 500 words in, I realized that I screwed up the entire plot so now I'm back to a blank word document. Great way to start off a writing contest, huh? So now I have to write 10k words in 13 days and hope for the best. It's going to be shitty, but at the moment, it's not about the quality. Think of it as NaNoWriMo, but in a year.

I'm not saying that I'll be the next JK Rowling, Stephen King, or Shakespeare. I'm certainly not anticipating ever seeing my name on any Best Sellers List. I'm not banking my entire future on it. I know it's not easy. I know I'll be rejected 291748593 times. But I'm determined that it's going to happen some day, my way. I suppose this is the start of my journey. I'm going to learn along the way, figure out what I can do to be even better, but I'll keep working until some day I get to say "I fucking did it."
